March 31, 2013 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“Why do you look for the living among the dead?  He is not here, but has been raised! Remember how he told you, while he was still in Galilee, that the Son of Man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and on the third day rise again.”  Then the women remembered his words, and when they returned from the tomb they told all these things to the eleven and to all the rest.   Luke 24:5c-29 NET

Today all around the world people will gather to worship our risen Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Many others have attended some kind of special service or program emphasizing the death, burial, & resurrection of our Lord.  I wonder. How many of these worshippers actually responded as the women in our text?  Do they return from “viewing the empty tomb” and tell anyone what they have seen and heard?  We must respond by telling someone about the sacrifice that was made for them or we are just spectators in an audience.  Pray with us that we all will be moved to tell others about the resurrection of our Lord.

This past Friday evening John had the privilege to speak to about 30 students at Kaohsiung Medical College.  Most of these students were Christians but some were not.  John was asked to speak about the Passion of the Christ as well as give a testimony as to why he is a missionary.  The evening went well.  At the end, John was able to talk individually with some of the students.  They asked some good questions that dealt with their work in the medical field.  One student was bothered by her inability to often be at Sunday worship because of her work schedule, and therefore not have a regular ministry.  John was able to encourage her to use the time that she would be putting into that ministry in the church building into leading a simple church at work or in her home.  She thought that this was a good suggestion and would begin considering how this might work for her.  Pray that these students will use their lives not only in serving people’s physical needs, but spiritual as well.

The ministry at Taiwan Xi En is busy as always.  They have two moms at the home right now.  They may be receiving two additional babies this week as well.  At the present, financial support for the ministry is not sufficient.  Please join us in praying that God will work in the hearts of people and congregations to support this ministry on a regular basis.  If you would like to learn more about the ministry you can check out the website at www.taiwanxien.org.

This week our Andrew & Moriah will be off school.  We are going to be gone for a couple of days relaxing with our children and several other missionaries.  We’ll certainly be talking ministry issues as we enjoy the beach and the slower pace.  On Monday morning, Dave & Noah Atkin, Ken Campbell, Chris Sanford, Andrew, and John will all be riding their bikes down to the beach where they’ll meet up with the ladies.  It is about 75 miles and very beautiful.  This will be Andrew’s first ride of this length.

We are praising God for His favor this week.  Taiwan had a large earthquake in the middle of the island.  So far only one person has died due to injuries from the quake.  Damage to buildings was relatively light considering it was registered 6.1.  We are also thankful for having some rain to relieve the drought.  We still need more, but at least we are receiving some.

Thank you for joining us in prayer.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl
