August 23, 2015 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“Therefore, because we know the fear of the Lord, we try to persuade people, …”  II Cor. 5:11b

A holy or reverent fear of the Lord should cause us to desire to do what is right and righteous.  This includes sharing the truth of the Gospel, because we do not want others to fall under the judgement of God and experience His wrath.  We desire that all people everywhere come to be reconciled to God so that their sins are forgiven.  We especially desire this for our family members and those we call friends.  It grieves us when people reject the Gospel, and extremely so, when these people then die.

This past week Tina Tsai, one of our Kaohsiung Taiwanese co-workers, told us her brother unexpectedly died.  She is grieving because he is lost to her physically and lost to God spiritually.  Tina said, “The thing that makes Christians the saddest is when a relative dies who has not yet accepted Christ.  All we can do is cast our hope on the Lord in prayer.”  Join us in praying for Tina and her family as well praying for a greater desire to reconcile people to Christ because we know the fear of the Lord.

Next Sunday, August 30th, our team is having a S&E Camp reunion in the afternoon.  There will be games, worship, and pizza.  We hope to reconnect with several of the students and encourage them in their walk with Christ.  Hopefully, we can also organize many of them into discipleship groups.  Often those  who come to such events are from areas near each other.  Join us in praying that many will attend and that they will desire to meet together in discipleship groups.

This week Cheryl has been asked to substitute teach at Andrew & Moriah’s school in the elementary & middle school (EMS) while the teachers work on writing assessments.  This will give her an opportunity to meet many people in the school community.  Many of the students and their parents are not Christians.  We ask that you pray she will be a blessing during this week and that she will have endurance for this busy week.

This week on Tuesday John will have an opportunity to meet with Roy, a teacher and Christian in the Taichung school system.  Roy is also instrumental in part of the ministry that the Taichung Team has in the jr. and sr. high schools through their Discovery English Video series.  These Bible based videos are used by schools in Taichung to help their students with listening comprehension.  These videos give the team the opportunity to minister in some of the schools.  Please pray for God to guide this meeting so that He will be glorified.

Our family has lived in Taiwan since July of 1998, 17 years.  This past August 3rd we, John & Cheryl, celebrated 30 years of marriage together.  God has richly blessed our marriage & family.  We thank you for all the support and prayers you given us through the years.  We are going to take an anniversary trip Sept. 1-7.  We will be out of the country for six nights.  Andrew & Moriah will be staying with our teammates.  We should still be reachable through e-mail and other means through the internet.  Thank you again for all your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl
