August 30, 2015 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“Now this is what I am saying, brothers and sisters: Flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable.  So then, dear brothers and sisters, be firm. Do not be moved! Always be outstanding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord.”  I Cor. 15:50, 58

Why do we live our lives as if what we earn in this physical life is what matters most of all?  We save up larger sums of money or invest in property.  We try to rise up the ladder of success.  We choose to invest in so many things; things, that in the end, just do not matter.  What are we doing to stand firm in the Lord?  Are we investing in the Lord?  We have a promise that there will certainly be a return on that investment.  The stock market goes up and down.  It always has and always will.  We cannot be too concerned about what happens with all our physical assets while there are so many people that have nothing invested in the spiritual world.  When the time comes for the perishable to be changed to imperishable what will their outcome be?  What will be left of the work we have done here on earth?  Join us in praying to be, “…outstanding in the work of the Lord.”

Please be praying with us over the youth that attend Sunday’s S&E Camp Reunion Event.  We have had a lot of rain recently, so we don’t know how many will attend.  Alicia Edwards, our teammate, said, “I am praying that those who want to follow Jesus do (come).”  We want to invest ourselves in those that desire to be disciples, because they are the ones that will affect those around them for Christ.

Kevin, a youth for S&E camp, lives nearby.  He had wanted to attend a discipleship group at our teammates’, the DeVries, home, but was not allowed.  After persistently wanting to attend his mom said he could form his own group at their apartment building.  Wow!  Actually, this is what we would prefer!  Yesterday was the first meeting.  It was small, but Derik was impressed by the desire of this young man to learn about God.  Pray that Kevin’s desire to know God will affect his family & friends!

Our team met together yesterday to make plans and discuss strategy.  It was really good to hear people being excited about working together to make disciples.  They are all committed to doing what God wants, not what we want.  Pray for us as we seek to serve where we can make the most impact for God’s Kingdom.

Several weeks ago we asked that you pray for Judy Dunn, John’s mom, because she had shingles.  She is still not completely over the effects.  She still has pain in one her arms and other places.  Pray that she can heal completely soon.

We are excited to announce that we are going to receive another granddaughter in January.  Philip & Bethany are going to have another little White girl to squeal and dance around the house.  Pray for the whole family as they prepare for her arrival.

We, John & Cheryl, will be traveling this week for our 30th anniversary.  We should be able to be reached through e-mail and Facebook as usual.  Andrew and Moriah will be staying with teammates here in Taiwan.

Thank you for your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl
