Revelation 22:17 “Whoever is thirsty, let him come; and whoever wishes, let him take the free gift of the water of life.”
Have you ever stopped to think about the cost of that free gift of the water of life? It cost nothing for us, but everything for our Lord. That is the real difference between what we believe and “religion.” The water of life is free to every repentant sinner who will yield his life to Jesus. How the unreached peoples of Central Asia like the Qashqais need to know this! But, before their hearts will open to this gospel we must pray. As we begin to pray next month, why not recruit someone to join the army of intercessors?
Pray that the Father will help us to be faithful as we pray for those who need to depend on Him for the water of life.
Today’s People Group
The Qashqai women began storing away the colorful wool they use in weaving the carpets; the men would soon begin dismantling the tent where the women gather to weave. Soon the men would prepare the camels for travel. It was nearly time for the yearly migration to the northern mountains. Considered a poor people group, the Qashqais do not reap any of Iran’s oil and gas wealth.
Although the Qashqai people increasingly remain in settlements, many still cling to a semi-nomadic lifestyle. More than 1.2 million Qashqais (2.3 percent of Iran’s population) live in the southern coastal region of Iran. Their ancestors are thought to be of Turkish heritage, and their tribal language has Turkish roots. This language is not in written form, but they also speak Farsi, Iran’s trade language. Few get an adequate education.
The vast majority of Qashqai people claim Islam as their religion, but they practice few Muslim customs. There are almost no followers of Christ among them. Those who give their allegiance to Christ are persecuted in Iran. But with the persecution has come great signs and wonders, as well as dreams and visions. Christian literature and videos are available in the Qashqai language, but they have no Bible.
Pray that God will bring more signs and wonders so that the Qashqai people will know that He is Lord of all. Pray that God will give them courage in the face of heavy persecution.
