While reading the classic book “Reese Howells intercessor”. I was suddenly arrested by the following paragraph that could, if it is true, light a fire of prayer that could shape the face of the whole earth and trigger the return of our Lord Jesus Christ:
“Then, while in Africa, he, “Reese Howells” had been struck by Andrew Murray’s commentary on the Saviors word in Matthew 9:38, “Pray ye the Lord of the harvest that He will send forth laborers into His harvest.” Andrew Murray has pointed out on the strength of this verse, that the number of missionaries on the field depends entirely on the extent to which someone obeys that command and prays out the laborers; and the Lord had called Mr. Howells to do this.”
While reading this statement, I can’t tell you how strongly I have felt the call from Heaven to do this, even as Rees Howells did it in his generation.
If this scripture and Andrew Murray commentary on it is true, and the church really understood it’s implications, then Matthew 9:38 would be on the fiery lips of millions of believers’ everyday worldwide. Jesus is very clear in Matthew 28:14 that he cannot return to the planet until every ethnic group has had a witness of the gospel of the kingdom. If we want Jesus to return, we must face this massive challenge; there are 7,000 unreached people groups in the earth today of whom 2.9 billion people have never heard the gospel. And if Andrew Murray is right, the main reason is that the church has not prayed the laborers into those fields.
Ekballo is the greek word Matthew used in Matthew 9:38 where Jesus commands His disciples to “Pray the Lord of the Harvest to send forth “ekballo” laborers into the harvest field.” Ekballo is not the normal term used for ‘send’ as most of our translations have it. It is a forceful word filled with passion and urgency, it means to hurl or thrust forth. It is the same word that Jesus uses when he says,” If I by the finger of God, cast out “ekballo” demons, then the Kingdom of Heaven has come upon you.” The authority and the force of Jesus casting out demons is the same spiritual force and authority by which he thrusts forth laborers. When Jesus ekballo’s demons, demons have to GO! When Jesus ekballo’s laborers, laborers have to GO!
Ekballo is also used when Jesus, having just been filled with the Holy Spirit, is driven(ekballo) by the Spirit into the wilderness to confront Satan in a 40 day fast. The Lord was ekballo-ing His Son into the harvest(Mark 1:12-13). The Ekballo Fast of Jesus is how the first missionary enterprise was launched. And shall we not follow the Masters example as He thrusts forth another great apostolic enterprise at the end of the age?
Springing out of 12 years of intercession at TheCall, on March 1st through April 9th (the anniversary of Azusa Street) we are inaugurating a 40 day Ekballo Fast and launching the Antioch House of Prayer at Mott Auditorium on the U.S. Center for World Mission campus in Pasadena, California. Along with the ACTS School, led by my spiritual son Brian Kim, Luke 18 Project, YWAM’s Fire and Fragrance and the USCWM we are calling men and women from across the nation to come to Pasadena and join us in this 40 day 24/7 worship and prayer thrust, believing for a great outpouring of the Spirit and a massive worldwide sending forth of laborers into the harvest fields of America and into the unreached people groups of the earth.
In 1886, The Student Volunteer Missions movement was birthed in Mt. Herman, Massachusetts. A woman names Grace Wilder and her brother Robert, prayed for a 100 students to volunteer to be foreign missionaries. Exactly 100 volunteered. They were called the Mt. Herman 100. From these 40 days, we are praying that God would give us 100 missionary intercessors to fuel the Antioch House of Prayer. Maybe they would be called the Mott 100.
Could one of them be you?
For those who are being stirred and desire to be a part of this core community, we are asking for a strong commitment to purity, unity, sacrifice as we are fueled by the grace of God in the atmosphere of continuous worship. Dorm rooms are available at the USCWM. They are on a first come, first serve basis. For those who are not doing a full fast, a cafeteria will provide food, but we are encouraging at the very least, a Daniel fast. We want to move the heart of Heaven in these great days. You must go through an application process. Meetings will be opened to all in the evenings, but the day will be meant for committed core. Go to antiochcenter.com/missionekballo to apply or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
