Ephesians 6:9 “And masters, treat your slaves in the same way. Do not threaten them, since you know that he who is both their Master and yours is in heaven, and there is no favoritism with him.”
Let’s start with the end of today’s article. Supposing true followers of Christ hired Thai Buddhists and treated them with love and dignity. This is an important aspect of what we call Business As Mission, or BAM. Businessmen who demonstrate the character of Christ can be used of Him to draw Thai Buddhists from darkness to the light of the gospel. Do you remember Boaz in the book of Ruth? That was a man who treated his harvesters with dignity during one of Israel’s darkest times (see Ruth 2:4).
Pray for the Holy Spirit to move in the hearts of believers in Singapore to be used of Him to build His kingdom among the lost.
Today’s People Group
Isra awakens early each day hearing the sound of traffic coming from her window. She came from Thailand to Singapore for a post as a domestic helper. The Singaporean family she lives with assigned her to watch their young children, clean their home, and prepare meals. For this she receives her living quarters and a small income. Her brother Aroon came with her. He lives and works at a construction project. He gets only a fraction of the pay that a Singaporean citizen would receive, but citizens generally will not perform such demanding and dangerous work.
Isra and Aroon mix their Buddhism with folk animism. Thus their employers allow a spirit house in front of their residence. Many such shrines dot the streets of Singapore. Each day devotees leave food or flowers in these doll-sized houses to appease the spirits.
Consider the employers of these alien workers: What if they were followers of Christ? Think of the testimony these believers could give!
Pray that Christ followers would treat their employees as they would treat Jesus (Ephesians 6:9). Pray that while Thai aliens are away from home, they would search for the Truth. Pray that the Holy Spirit will create a hunger and thirst for the Light of Jesus that will lead them to faith in His Name.
