|
Luoluopo, Central of China
The religion of this group is polytheism, believing in many gods. They are also animists, worshipping the spirits of their dead ancestors, as well as spirits of the hills, trees, water, earth, sky, wind, and forests. Magic plays a major role in their daily lives. Surprisingly, they believe in a creator God who is both near and accessible. They also believe in heaven and hell.
Ministry Obstacles
The Luoluopo have a culture of worshiping what has been created rather than the Creator.
Outreach Ideas
Pray the Luoluopo believers will mature in the faith such that they can accurately carry the Gospel message to the remainder of their people group. They also need to grow in numbers.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are a few Christian believers among this people group. Pray they will live lives that are pleasing to the Lord, and that they will grow in numbers and in maturity in the faith. Pray they will submit to one another out of reverence for Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Lord will open the eyes of the Luoluopo community to see their opportunity to trust Christ for an abundant and eternal life.
Scripture Focus

|
Champa of India
The Champa inhabit the frozen deserts that separate Ladakh from Tibet in Jammu and Kashmir. The name Champa may have been derived from their traditional drink, chang. Their staple food is barley and the meat of yak and wild horse. The major economic resources of the Champa are yaks and goats. Their snow desert habitat does not have any communication or health service facilities.
Ministry Obstacles
The Champa live in a remote region.
Outreach Ideas
Christian workers can carry the message of Jesus to these people by recounting stories from Scripture, and showing films about the life of Christ.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There likely are no followers of Christ among this Buddhist community, but pray for the ones that will soon emerge. Pray they will forgive one another, just as Christ forgave them.
Pray for the entire people group

Tibetan, Zhugqu of China
The Zhugqu Tibetans have a long history. A Chinese writer remarked, “Their forebears fled from the horrors of war and eventually settled here and in surrounding areas, where they have multiplied over the generations.” Their pre-Buddhist religion of Bon includes the belief that mountains are holy. They believe powerful demons live inside the highest mountains. “They pray to the mountain god to make their hopes and wishes come true: peace, security, thriving livestock and abundant harvests.”
Ministry Obstacles
These Tibetans have virtually no background knowledge or experience that will form the basis for understanding who Christ is, and what he has done.
Outreach Ideas
The stories of Scripture, beginning with the creation and fall of man, can form the foundation for faith in Christ.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the Christians that will someday emerge from this Tibetan people group – that they will grow in the grace and knowledge of the Lord Jesus Christ, being adequately instructed in the faith.
Pray for the entire people group
These people have no knowledge of Christ. Pray that Christians will be sent to carry the message of Christ, to instruct them and to love them.
Scripture Focus
“You purchased men for God from every tribe and language and people and nation.” Revelation 5:9

Join D and H (Asia) in praying for the following:
Heat – Pray for endurance and energy. Northside – Pray for the team coming May 28 – June 10 for outreach and survey trip (Alan & Judy Norman). We’re hoping to organize village outreaches in the area around our future site. Daline – Healing from loss of husband, joy in working and raising Leanne, trusting God for future, Heidi’s role of encouragement. Daniel – Yohan’s son, whom we formerly helped for his seizures due to neurocysticercosis (tapeworm in the brain), is doing well. They are very poor and we are pursuing helping Daniel with computer/IT education and he will likely volunteer at MMC. Patients – I should do a better job keeping track of patients to pray for, but it really is simply overwhelming. Focusing on Chhlong patients, please pray for: Sry Ahn (feeling very good now, treated for Ulcerative Colitis); Noan’s sister with headaches and lots else; Sythet (see-TAIT) with severe anemia and a huge spleen; Chhuk (chook) from Chnee with asthma; Sarun from Bungkeab, cachetic from intestinal TB(?), too weak to walk. None of these women are Christians and all are very poor. MMC – We organized a 2 day seminar for our staff of twenty to help teach them about church-planting, and the deeper-down motivation we missionaries have for being here in Cambodia – to see people find COMPLETE healing, not just physical. It went great and one nurse, Vibol, made a decision to follow Christ.
Us – We feel spiritually healthy and solid as a family, but struggle with daily issues – choosing joy in the heat, being wise and patient with difficult medical cases, missing family & close friends

|
Miana of India
The Miana mostly subsist on agriculture and fishing while the landless depend on wage-labor. Some are marginal farmers. They have their own traditional council and the headman or mukhi presides over it. Traditionally, they accept both cooked and uncooked food from all Muslims but not from the scheduled castes, Bhangi and Chamar. They maintain cordial relations with the Bania, Lohana and other Hindu communities living in the region. Only sons inherit property among them.
Ministry Obstacles
The people of the Miana community may not fully understand who Jesus is, and possibly may not have known disciples of Christ who follow Him with a whole heart. Pray for understanding. Pray for committed disciples of Christ to visit the Miana community.
Outreach Ideas
Christians can bring the good news of Jesus to the Miana community by using stories from Scripture, and also use Gospel recordings and films. Much prayer is needed to prepare hearts.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be no followers of Jesus among the Miana community today, but pray for the many that will soon come to Christ. Pray that Christ may dwell in their hearts through faith. Pray they will find each other, and fellowship faithfully together.

Charan, Hindu of India
One report is that the community name is derived from the word char, meaning to spread, as the Charan were those bands of genealogists attached to royal courts who spread the fame of the latter by singing their praises. The old men wear a dhoti and shirt, and a white cap or a turban. After marriage they worship Satyanarayana. The literacy level among the Charan is very low.
Ministry Obstacles
The low literacy rate will be an obstacle if the Gospel comes to the Charan only in written form.
Outreach Ideas
Stories told from scripture, and Gospel films and recordings, will all be helpful.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be no Christian believers among the Charan community, but pray for the many believers that will soon come from this group. Pray they will be properly instructed in the faith, and will grow to become mature.
Pray for the entire people group

In the past, the Axi chose to remain hidden in the hills and retain their own identity. They have a unique dance, the Axi Tiaoyue, which is now famous throughout China. Jew, Eastern Yiddish-Speaking of Israel
Yiddish is a Germanic language, spoken throughout the world and written with the Hebrew alphabet. For a significant portion of its history it was the primary spoken language by the Ashkenazi (European) Jews. Yiddish is written and spoken as a living language in many Orthodox Jewish communities around the world. It is most notably used as a first language in most Hasidic communities, where it is the first language learned in childhood and used in home, schooling and many social settings.
Ministry Obstacles
Orthodox Jews find it quite difficult to accept Jesus as the Messiah of scripture, the anointed of God.
Outreach Ideas
The Messianic Jews of Israel may be able to demonstrate with their lives that trust in Jesus has validity and brings life.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a few followers of Christ the Messiah among the Yiddish speaking Jews. Pray they will become firmly grounded in the finished work of Christ on the cross, trusting Him fully for salvation and for a fruitful life.

Jat, Hindu of India
The Jat are a dominant peasant community of north-west India. Popular local tradition attributes their origin to the matted hair (jata) of Lord Shiva. Another tradition connects them with Jata, one of the sons of Brahma, the Supreme Being. At the present stage of scholarship, it appears that the Jat were a section of the pastoral communities who migrated from Central Asia to western India between the second century BC and fifth century AD.
Ministry Obstacles

Their low literacy rate is an obstacle if the Gospel comes to them only in printed form, but isn’t necessarily a large obstacle if it comes in oral form.
Outreach Ideas
Teams to carry Gospel films, recordings and stories from scripture will be helpful.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the Christian believers among the Dhangar community will become mature in the faith, able to have a bold, kind witness for Jesus to their neighbors.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Dhangar will increasingly hunger to know the creator God in a personal way.
Scripture Focus
“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” Romans 1:16

Fulani, Toroobe of Nigeria
The Fulani have been largely responsible for introducing and spreading Islam throughout much of western Africa. They have been a nomadic people and influential in regional politics, economics, and histories throughout western Africa for over a thousand years. The height of the Fulani empire was between the early 1800s and early 1900s, being consolidated under Usman dan Fodio and centered in northern Nigeria.
Ministry Obstacles
The Fulani have followed Islam for centuries, giving them a worldview not easily influenced by the good news about Christ.
Outreach Ideas
Sustained, focused prayer is needed to help the Fulani come to a sufficient understanding of who Jesus truly is, the Son of God. Spiritual truths are spiritually discerned, and prayer is needed.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are only a few followers of Christ among the Toroobe Fulani. Pray their faith will become firmly established on the truth of scripture.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Fulani to find Isa (Jesus) of the Koran of increasing interest, someone to study. Pray for their curiosity to be satisfied.
Scripture Focus
“After these things I looked, and behold, a great multitude which no one could count, from every nation and all tribes and peoples and tongues, standing before the throne and before the Lamb.” Revelation 7:9

Tuareg, Kel Tamasheq of Mali
The Tuareg are a nomadic pastoralist people, and are the principal inhabitants of the Saharan interior of North Africa. Descended from Berbers in the region that is now Libya, the Tuareg are descendants of ancient Saharan peoples described by Herodotus, who mentions the ancient Libyan people, the Garamantes. In the early nineteenth century, the Tuareg resisted the French invasion of their Central Saharan homelands for the purpose of colonization. After numerous massacres on both sides, the Tuareg were subdued.
Ministry Obstacles
The Tuareg are located in an area of difficult access for outsiders.
Outreach Ideas
Gospel radio can be useful for these people living in a remote region.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray the few followers of Christ among the Tuareg will grow both in maturity and in numbers. Pray for qualified pastors and teachers, and for scripture to be made available to them.
Pray for the entire people group

Berber, Tekna of Morocco
The name Berber comes from an Arabic name for the aboriginal people west and south of Egypt. Berber is a generic name given to numerous ethnic groups who share similar cultural, political and economical practices. The arabization of the Berber people happened in three stages, the third stage taking place between the 15th and 17th centuries. Their main vocation is settled agriculture, not nomadic wanderings.
Ministry Obstacles
To follow Christ causes a Berber to risk much. Losing one’s place in family and society is not a trivial loss, and physical danger may be involved.
Outreach Ideas
Gospel radio broadcasts will be helpful in this remote region.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may presently be no followers of Christ among this Berber people group, but pray for those who will soon emerge. Pray they will be joyful always, praying continually, and giving thanks in all circumstances.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray these Berber peoples will once again find the Christian faith of their forefathers of long ago.
Scripture Focus
“How then shall they call upon Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach unless they are sent?” Romans 10:14-15

Thai, Northeastern, Lao Isan of Thailand
Wet-rice agriculture dominates the Thai economy, with about 50% of Thailand’s population living in rural agricultural communities. Buddhism is a central and unifying force in Thai society. The Thai regularly make merit by giving gifts to the temple, attending festivals, and having their sons ordained. In Thailand, Buddhism is a syncretic religion: it incorporates a mixture of pre-Buddhist Hindu beliefs and practices, interwoven with animism and Theravada Buddhist philosophy and rituals.
Ministry Obstacles
Buddhism provides a very different worldview from the worldview taught through Moses and Jesus, a worldview difficult to overcome.
Outreach Ideas
Christian workers need to model Christ-like behavior as they assist the Thai with material and physical needs.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few Christian believers among the Northeastern Thai to become well established in the faith, resting fully on the finished work of Christ on the cross. Pray they will attain to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Thai people will not be satisfied with their religion, but will hunger to know personally the creator God. Pray this hunger will be soon satisfied.

Amdo, Rongpa of China
There are two main branches of Tibetan peoples in Tibet, the Amdo and the Kham, with many subgroups. Today, Tibetan society has two basic levels: the family and the social classes (commoners, clergy, and nobility). Polyandry (a woman who has several husbands) is socially accepted and very common. The only exception is among the Amdo, who are usually monogamous. The ability to endure harsh conditions has made the Tibetans one of the most rugged peoples in the world.
Ministry Obstacles
Tibet is a difficult area to enter. Conditions are harsh, and access is limited.
Outreach Ideas
Much sustained and focused prayer is needed for the Tibetans. Pray the Lord will give these people hungry hearts to seek Him.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are only a few followers of Christ among the Amdo Buddhists, and they need our prayers. Pray their faith will be protected and nourished, and that they will become mature in the faith. Pray the Lord will help them to be faithful witnesses for Himself.

Ghao-Xong, Eastern of China
During the Song Dynasty (AD 960-1279) the Ghao-Xong staged 112 wars to save their tribal lands and preserve their way of life. The Miao (Ghao-Xong) people in Hunan seem to have been badly oppressed by the Chinese over a long period of time. The Ghao-Xong have the custom of worshiping Pan Hu, the dragon-dog they claim as their ancestor. Most of their villages are on the top of mountains where they are able to maintain their customs in privacy.
Ministry Obstacles
The Ghao-Xong may have little concept of a transcendent creator God who desires to express His love to them.
Outreach Ideas
The existing believers among the Ghao-Xong may become mature enough in the Lord to carry the Gospel effectively to their neighbors and friends. Pray for them.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are known followers of Christ among the Ghao-Xong, which is very encouraging. Pray for these people to become firmly established on the truths of scripture, trusting fully in the finished work of Christ for their salvation and for his Holy Spirit to produce the fruit of Christ’s character.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the Ghao-Xong people to be able to provide good schools for their children, and to have adequate means to provide for their families.

Machhi, Hindu of India
The traditional occupation of the Machhi is fishing, which continues to be their primary source of livelihood. Child marriage is prevalent among the Machhi. Property is usually shared by the sons but a widow receives a 12% share of her husband’s property. Their attitude towards formal education of both boys and girls is favorable.
Ministry Obstacles
The polytheistic worldview of the Hindu Macchi makes it difficult to accept a creator God who stands outside His creation, who created the universe at a point in time.
Outreach Ideas
Christians need to present the person of Jesus Christ to the Macchi community. Films and recordings can be very helpful.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be no one among the Hindu Macchi community today who knows and follows Christ. However, pray for those that the Lord will soon call to Himself. Pray they will be faithful to fellowship together, and will be zealous to know and follow Christ. Pray they will live holy lives.

Ghirath, Hindu of India
The name Ghirath refers to the traditional occupation of agriculture and animal husbandry, for which this community is well known. Marriage rituals are performed by a Brahman according to Vedic rites, and the bride and groom circle the sacred fire or a pomegranate or fig tree. Birth pollution is terminated by taking cow’s urine on the seventh and thirteenth days.
Ministry Obstacles
The Ghirath community speaks a number of languages, as most castes do. Separate church planting projects may be needed for each language group.
Outreach Ideas
Workers are needed to minister to these people using oral means as well as with the written Word.

Kahar of India
It seems likely that this caste is a remnant of one of the primitive races who occupied the valley of the Ganges before the incursion of the Aryans. The Brahman are their sacred specialists. One of the main ceremonies associated with marriage is to circle the sacred fire seven times. In villages some are engaged in carrying water for high-ranking communities in the event of marriage, death and other occasions.
Ministry Obstacles
The worldview of the Kahar is very different than the Biblical worldview.
Outreach Ideas
Tools (Jesus film, recordings, videos, etc.) are available in most of the languages spoken by the Kahar community, but workers are needed to carry these tools to the people.
Pray for the followers of Christ

Rabari, Hindu of India
Rabari, Hindu of India
Rabari means outsiders. This is because of their occupation. Rabari’s main business used to be raising livestock. These livestock need lots of space and the people have lived outside the villages. At present, the Rabari have settled down in their original communities, and are engaging in commerce and agriculture. Rabari are the remnant of Huns, who invaded India in the fifth century AD.
Ministry Obstacles

Outreach Ideas
Christians need to build bridges of friendship and trust. Helping with material and physical needs is one way to do this.
Pray for the followers of Christ

Tibetan, Shanyan of China
The Tibetan name for Shanyan means “rough terrain”. The people live in a very remote district of China, requiring travel by foot or horseback. Reports indicate they defied imperial rule for over 200 years by relying on their dangerous terrain, and were finally brought under Chinese rule in 1910. They are completely unreached by the Gospel, posing one of the greatest challenges of any Buddhist group in the world.
Ministry Obstacles
The Shanyan people have little basis for understanding a creator God who knows and loves them personally. Also, their remote location is an especially difficult barrier.
Outreach Ideas
Sustained, focused prayer is needed for these difficult to reach people. Pray the Lord will prepare their hearts to understand and receive, and pray for dedicated Chinese believers to carry the message to them.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Even though the Gospel message is completely unknown to these people, pray for the followers of Christ that will soon come out from among them. Pray the Lord will help them become devoted disciples, firmly planted on the truth of scripture, and growing in the faith.

Pasi, Hindu of India
The legend about the origin of the community is that one day a man was going to kill a number of cows. Parashuram was at that time practicing austerities in the jungle. Hearing the cries of the sacred animals he rushed to their assistance, but the cow killer was aided by his friends. So Parashuram made five men out of kusha grass and brought them to life by letting drops of his perspiration fall upon them. Hence arose the name Pasi, from the Hindi pasina (sweat).
Ministry Obstacles

Somali of Somalia
The coming of Arab traders to the area of Somalia in the 10th century significantly shaped much of modern Somali culture. The vast majority of Somalis converted to Islam at that time. Rashaida of Sudan
The Rashaida are a Bedouin people populating either side of the Red Sea, coming from a major tribe in mainland Arabia about 150 years ago. They are a nomadic people living in tents made of goatskins. They are herdsmen, breeding primarily goats and sheep. Since they are largely illiterate, they memorize in great detail the pedigree of their animals, keeping mental records of their herds over seven or eight preceding generations of the flock.
Ministry Obstacles
A nomadic lifestyle makes it especially difficult to build relationships with people.
Outreach Ideas
The Gospel message needs to come to these illiterate people orally, using stories from scripture, videos, recordings and similar means. Bridges of friendship need to be built.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There may be a few followers of Christ among the Rashaida community. Pray for these people, and for the new believers that will soon emerge. Pray they in all things will grow up into Him who is the Head, Christ.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Rashaida families will be able to live peaceful lives. Pray for stability in Sudan.
Scripture Focus
“But indeed, as I live, all the earth will be filled with the glory of the Lord.” Numbers 14:21

Bedouin, Berabish of Mali
A widely quoted Bedouin saying is: “I against my brothers, I and my brothers against my cousins, I and my brothers and my cousins against the world.” Bedouins traditionally have strong honor codes, and traditional systems of justice dispensation in Bedouin society typically revolve around such codes. The bisha’a, or ordeal by fire, is a well-known Bedouin practice of lie detection.
Ministry Obstacles
These people live in a harsh environment, difficult for outsiders to enter.
Outreach Ideas
Gospel radio will be useful, and visiting workers bringing videos and recordings are needed. Sustained prayer may be the best thing we can do.
Pray for the followers of Christ
Pray for the few followers of Christ among the Bedouin of Mali. They live in a difficult environment. Pray they will have nothing to do with the deeds of darkness, living as children of light.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray for the material and physical needs of the Bedouin. Pray they will be able to care properly for their families.
Scripture Focus
“The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Therefore beseech the Lord of the harvest to send out workers into His harvest.” Matthew 9:37-38

Sarki of Nepal
The traditional and primary occupation of the Sarki was shoe-making, but nowadays only a few among them are occupied as leather-workers or cobblers. They have family deities and a village deity. Some of their deities are Santala Devi, Maidevta and Dat Kali. Their witchdoctor is called lama or jhankri.
Ministry Obstacles
The worldview of the Sarki is very different than those of a monotheist, who believes in one God who is creator of all.
Outreach Ideas
The Lord is building His church in Nepal. His Spirit is active. Pray that Christian workers will include the Sarki community in their outreach.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are some Christians among the Sarki community. Pray they become more than cultural Christians, instead becoming zealous disciples of Christ, trusting Him fully with their lives.
Pray for the entire people group
Pray the Sarki community will be dissatisfied with worshipping the gods of this age, but rather will hunger to know the creator God and His Son who came to give them life.
Scripture Focus
“And the gospel must first be preached to all the nations.” Mark 13:10

Darfur, the name of the area where they live today, means the Homeland of the Fur. This area was known in the 16th century as Southern Nubia. Outreach Ideas
Workers need to minister to the Fur by helping them physically and materially. The needs are great.
Pray for the followers of Christ
There are few if any followers of Christ among the Fur, but pray the Lord will soon build His church among this ancient community. Pray they will keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
Pray for the entire people group
Ask the Lord to help the Fur care properly for their families, and to live lives of peace in a dangerous land. Pray the Lord gives them increasing hunger to learn more about Isa (Jesus) of the Koran, the Prince of Peace.
Scripture Focus
“Ascribe to the Lord, O families of the peoples, ascribe to the Lord glory and strength. Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name.” 1 Chronicles 16:28-29
