June 20, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

Then he said to me, ‘Go, because I will send you far away to the Gentiles.’The crowd was listening to him until he said this. Then they raised their voices and shouted, ‘Away with this man from the earth! For he should not be allowed to live!’”

The Jews at the time of Jesus were so prejudiced against the gentiles that they could even think of someone being sent by God to speak to them.  Do we have prejudice in our hearts that keeps us from serving or evangelizing others as God would have us to do?  Please pray that the Church in Taiwan will desire for God to break down all barriers to the spreading of the Gospel.

This past week Paul Pan along with several others were taking a training course called Kairos.  This course teaches how God has moved throughout history to bring salvation to the world.  It also inspires those taking it become actively involved in evangelism/missions.  Please pray that these people will inspire their congregations to do great things for God.

Today, Sunday June 20th, their will be meeting in Taipei that many of our Formosa Christian Mission/Team Expansion missionaries as well as several of our Taiwanese leaders will be attending.  This meeting is to discuss the establishment of a training center in Taiwan for evangelism and missions.  Please pray that everyone involved will be sensitive to God’s will concerning this training center.

Please pray for the Kaohsiung Good News Christian Church.  They did meet last meet with Eugene Tsai concerning he working with the congregation.  They invited Eugene to work with them especially in the area of cell groups.  Peter Ho, the minister, at this meeting tenured his resignation.  His last Sunday will be July 25th.  Peter is planning our starting a new congregation in a different area of the city.  We pray God’s blessings on his work.  John will be meeting with the leaders on Monday evening to discuss the transition and how John can help.  Please pray for wisdom for the leaders at Good News and for John.

Please continue to pray for Kathy-Lu White, Bethany’s mother-in-law, as she moves closer to getting a date for her heart valve surgery.  She is now registered in the Canadian health system for the surgery to take place.  She will have a meeting with a surgeon on July 14th.

Thank you for all of yours prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

June 13, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family and Friends,

“When we heard this, both we and the local people begged him not to go up to Jerusalem.  Then Paul replied, ‘What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be tied up, but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus.’  Because he could not be persuaded, we said no more except, ‘The Lord’s will be done.’” Acts 21:12-14

We don’t always understand why God leads someone to do something that may lead to trouble or is dangerous, but we must learn to submit to God’s will just as these disciples.  We can stand in the way of God’s man or woman when He has given them a task to do.  We need to learn to accept it and pray that God’s will be done in & through their lives.

We praise God for the Hway Min and Angel’s baptisms.  They were excited as they left to go home last week.  Please pray for them as they learn to stand for Jesus at home, work, and school.  Please pray as well for their witness to their husband and father.

Today the Good News church leadership and minister will meet with Eugene to discuss his involvement with the Good News church after his graduation from seminary.  Their are other issues to be discussed as well.  Please pray that all can be done in a way that glorifies God.  Next week John will meet with the leadership once again for training.

During this month we are working on preparations for Sports and English Camp and VBS.  Today at Eternal Light we will have a meeting about VBS.  Please pray for God to prepare the hearts and minds of our people to serve the children of our community.

Thank you again for praying for Cheryl’s biopsy.  Everything cam back fine.  They said that there were no cancer cells present.  There was just some inflammation.  She is to return in three months for another pap smear.

Thank you for always being in our corner cheering us on and lifting us up.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Pray that as Christ’s disciples we learn to accept His will.

2.  Pray for Hway Min and Angel as they learn to be a good witness for Christ.

3.  Please pray for the Good News church leadership as they meet to decide about having Eugene Tsai work with them.

4.  Please pray continue to pray for our Sports & English camp as well as our VBS.

5.  Thank you again for praying for Cheryl.

June 6, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“Now some men came down from Judea and began to teach the brothers, ‘Unless you are circumcised according to the custom of Moses, you cannot be saved.’  When Paul and Barnabas had a major argument and debate with them, the church appointed Paul and Barnabas and some others from among them to go up to meet with the apostles and elders in Jerusalem about this point of disagreement.”  Acts 15:1-2

Today we will be worshipping with the Good News Church.  John will be preaching from Acts 15.  This passage of scripture shows steps that were taken to maintain peace proper teaching within the Church.  Peace is always a challenge where people are in relationships.  People have different perspectives and opinions that sometimes get in the way of the truth.  We must learn not only to let the truth stand as it is, but how to reconcile disputes as well.  Please pray that these principles will be clear to those hearing the message today.

Please pray for Hway Min and Angel as they are baptized today.  Pray that their witness will bring about the salvation of their household.

This summer we will again be helping at Sports and English Camp.  There will be around 140 jr. high and high school age students participating.  Many of them will not be Christians.  Some may have never been involved with a church before.  Please pray that this camp experience will bring them to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.  We will also be conducting our elementary VBS in late July.  We will be renting facilities from the local grade school.  We will take registrations for up to 60 students.  Last year we registered 50 students, with 40 some in attendance daily.  Last year we did not gain any families through the VBS, but we have continued to build  relationships with some of them.  Please pray that this year we can bring some of these families into the church.

This past week a representative from the American Institute in Taiwan, AIT, came to Kaohsiung to visit the House of Hope, His Hands Taiwan’s unwed mothers and babies’ home.  AIT must approve the immigration visas for the babies that are adopted by US families.  The visit went very well.  It provided for more understanding for both AIT and His Hands.  Praise God for His help in this meeting.

Nathanael has the opportunity to work at a Christian TV station this summer.  He began this past Tuesday.  He said that this week went well.  He will be working there for at least the month of June.  Please pray for good communication with those he works with as most of the communication is in Chinese.

Please pray for our finances at this time.  Our balance is lower that it has ever been.  This is dues mainly to having several larger expenses this spring.  Please pray that we will have wisdom as we spend the what is entrusted to us.

Thank you for your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please pray for our churches to allow the truth rule in their lives and to learn how to deal with disagreements properly.

May 30, 2010 Prayer Note

“But I do not consider my life worth anything to myself, so that I may finish my task and the ministry that I received from the Lord Jesus, to testify to the good news of God’s grace.”  Acts 20:24

How many people have said or thought such as the Apostle Paul wrote above?  Many have proposed to consider their lives as lost for the Gospel, but how many like the Apostle Paul actually live it out.  Often when God calls us to sacrifice we some how don’t hear Him calling, or we are unclear as to His will.  May we learn to be faithful to the task and ministry God has given each of us.

Next Sunday, we will be having two baptisms, a mother and daughter.  Their names are Hway Min and Angel.  Willie, Hway Min’s son, also desires to be baptized, but his father will not let him.  He is the oldest grandson and is expected to carry on the ancestor worship.  Please pray for this family as God works in their lives.

Recently, there has been growth in our youth outreach activities.  Fang Yi, one of our men, teaches a guitar class.  This has been a real drawing card for the youth.  Please pray that we can build relationships with these youth.

Please pray for Brette Clarke.  She is a student at Cincinnati Christian University.  She is making plans to come to Taiwan this June in order to intern with us for about 6 months.  Please pray for everything to go smoothly for her as she applies for her visa and makes other preparation.

Thank you for praying.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please pray that we can live as Paul did before the people of Taiwan.

2.  Please pray for Hway Min & Angel as they will be baptized next week.

3.  Praise God for the increase in youth.  Pray for spiritual growth.

4.  Please pray for Brette Clarke as she prepares to intern with us.

May 23, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“Men, you know that our prosperity comes from this business.  And you see and hear that this Paul has persuaded and turned away a large crowd, not only in Ephesus but in practically all of the province of Asia, by saying that gods made by hands are not gods at all. There is danger not only that this business of ours will come into disrepute, but also that the temple of the great goddess Artemis will be regarded as nothing, and she whom all the province of Asia and the world worship will suffer the loss of her greatness.”  Acts 19:25d-27

The above words are those of Demetrius the Ephesian silversmith.  His words express several thoughts two of which are all around us in Taiwan.  First, he admits that he makes money from the worship of the goddess that he serves.  Second, he believes that this goddess is real, and yet could disappear without her worshippers.  These are the thoughts of a man that is lost in idolatry.  He feels his trade is reputable because he provides a service to worshippers.  He recognizes that his goddess needs he and others to worship her in order for her to exist in the world, but does not realize for this very reason she is not real.  Our God is real, and does not need us to worship Him in order to exist.  HE IS!  Join us in praying for the Taiwan and the world to recognize that there is only one true God on this the World Day of Prayer.

Please be in prayer for our summer ministry plans.  We will be teaching and leading at our mission’s on-island 5th annual Sports and English Camp.  The camp dates are July 11th – 17th.  Preregistration is already full with nearly 140 campers.  Please be praying as we begin preparing to present the Gospel to these teens.  We are also having our VBS July 26th -30th.  Last year we had a great week and look forward to another one this year.  Please pray that God will prepare the hearts of the children to receive His Word.

Thank you for praying for Nathanael and the Farmers as they were traveling last week.  Everyone arrived safely.  Nathanael is enjoying being home.  Cheryl was able to Skype with the Farmers on Friday.  She said that Mylee was really doing well.  Please pray that the adjustments to the States continue to go well.

Thank you for praying for Andrew and Moriah this past week.  Moriah went back to school on Wednesday, but Andrew was out all week.  He has had a virus that just would not let go of him.  He has not felt that bad, but has had some fever.  He is much better now.

John met with the Good News Church for the third time for leadership training.  This time there were 7 seven in attendance.  The month before there were about twice as many.  Please pray that the leaders will make this training a priority and that it will change their hearts and minds.

Thank you for your prayers

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please pray that Taiwan and the world will recognize that there is only one true God.

May 18, 2010 Prayer

Dear Family & Friends,

“He began to speak out fearlessly in the synagogue, but when Priscilla and Aquila heard him, they took him aside and explained the way of God to him more accurately.”  Acts 18:26

The modern day Church needs more people like Priscilla and Aquila.  People that are confident in their faith and position in Christ to the point that they are will to confront incomplete or incorrect teaching with the truth of God’s Word.  Please join with us in praying for God to raise up such believers.

We missed sending out the prayer note Sunday morning due to traveling to the Home of God’s Love with the Farmer family.  John also preached that morning for Ted Skiles at the children’s home and at the Good News Christian Church in Lo-tung.  The first service was at 8:00 a.m., so he had quite a busy morning.  Please pray for the ministry of the Home of God’s Love.  They have 20 babies that are being adopted out to Christian homes.  They also have around 30 other children that are pre-school to high school age that are in foster care.  The home is making preparations to build a new facility for the foster care ministry and then to renovate the present facility for the adoption ministry.

As this is being written Mylee and her forever family, the Farmers, are flying across the US toward Chicago, IL.  They should make it into the airport in Evansville, IN around 9:40 a.m. on Tuesday morning US time.  Please pray for Mylee as she adjusts to her new surroundings.  She has done very well adjusting to and accepting the Farmers as her family.  We have truly been blessed to care for Mylee these past 10 months.  We were also greatly blessed to have Donnie, Gina, Dillon, Peyton, and Maci all stay with us this past three weeks.  We are certain that God has great plans for Mylee and her forever family.

Please pray for Nathanael as he is presently on a layover in Japan preparing for his last leg of his trip to Taiwan.  He should land here in about six hours.  We are all anxiously awaiting his arrival.

Please pray for Andrew and Moriah.  They both have had fevers the last two days.  Moriah’s seems to be slowly going away, but Andrew’s is lingering.  They have a concert this friday and the end of school is coming up soon.

Thank you for your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please for God to raise up confident believers in the Church that will teach the truth no matter what.

2.  Please pray for the ministry of the home of God’s Love.

3.  Please pray for Mylee and the Farmers as they travel and adjust to life together in the US.

4.  Please pray for Nathanael as he travels to Taiwan.

5.  Please pray for Andrew & Moriah to get well.

May 9, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“But Mary treasured up all these words, pondering in her heart what they might mean.”  Luke 2:19

Being that it is Mother’s Day, John will be preaching from passages that show Mary heart.  The passages will take us all the way to the cross.  All moms treasure memories of their children growing up.  We hope that they will empathize with Mary, therefore, preparing their hearts for the gospel.  Please pray that everyone will be touched by the message.

The rest of our Mother’s Day program includes praise & worship, a children’s choir, an adult choir, teenage guitar club, & a puppet skit.  Following the program their will be a catered meal and Christian karaoke.  Should be a day to remember.  Please pray that God will be glorified and that people will be open to the gospel.  We are hoping for 100 in attendance.

The Farmers will have their interview for Mylee’s exit visa on the 14th of May.  Please pray that the information collected concerning Mylee’s birth mom’s situation and His Hands’ attempts to find her is sufficient for AIT to grant her exit visa.  The major issue is that an irrevocable release was never signed by the birth mom.  Mylee needs to be seen in the eyes of the US government as an abandoned child.

We continue to be involved in teaching character education classes at the elementary school near our church building, and counseling.  Recently, Paul was asked to help with a group students.  These children all need some help learning to work together with others.  Paul also has been counseling a brother and sister whose family situation is not very good.  When he heard about them and then spoke to each of them he realized how difficult it would be to help them especially without using scripture.  He spoke to the head counselor about the situation.  He told them the only way he could really help these two children was through bringing them in touch with Jesus.  The counselor told Paul that this is what they wanted to happen.  The school agreed that these two children would only be helped if they found true acceptance and unconditional love.  They told Paul he had their permission to teach them about Jesus!  PTL!  Please pray for Paul to have wisdom as he works with these children.

Thank you for your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please pray for John as he preaches and for the hearts of those that hear the message.

2.  Please pray for 100 in attendance, and for God to be glorified.

3.  Please pray for Mylee’s visa interview to go well on the 14th.

4.  Please pray for our work at the elementary school to continue to be a blessing to the children.

May 2, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family and Friends,

“Now when Silas and Timothy arrived from Macedonia,Paul became wholly absorbed with proclaiming the word, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ.”  Acts 18:5

Paul was able to totally give himself to proclaiming God’s Word about Jesus because he had people that supported him.  Most likely, Silas & Timothy brought a gift with them from the brothers and sisters in Athens.  Silas and Timothy may have worked some as well.  This passage reminds us that God calls some to send and others to go.  We praise God for all the people in God’s Kingdom that send and that go.

We are praising God for Saturday’s youth group.  Their were four new students that came.  Dillon & Peyton Farmer were able to share with the youth group a portion of their testimony including how having an adopted sister has made a difference in their lives.  We praise God for the growth in the youth group and the opportunity for them to see the difference God’s love can make in a family.

Our Mother’s Day outreach is just a week away.  We are still praying for 50 visitors.  We have several confirmed, but we still have several open seats.  Join us in praying that people like Ok & Susan Tzai will bring their daugther Vivian to the outreach.

The Farmers are already making an impression on people here in Taiwan.  They look at our group and start asking questions, which provides for an opportunity to share of God’s endless love.  They are going to have several opportunities to share with people this week about how God has given them the desire to adopt their two daughters.  We are praying that they will make an impact on our congregation as well as our community.

Please continue to pray that all will go well with Mylee’s exit interview on the 14th of May.  God has already helped them register their adoption, obtain Mylee’s passport, and get her exit visa health exam.  PTL!

Thank you for your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  We praise God for you and all the others in God’s Kingdom that send those that God has called to go.

2.  Praise God for a growing youth group and God’s using Dillon and Peyton.

3.  Please pray that we will have 50 people attend the Mother’s Day outreach next week.

4.  Please pray for the witness of the Farmer family as they share with people the love God has given them for their adopted children.

5.  Praise God for all that has been accomplished with Mylee’s adoption.  Pray that God continues to move mountain.

April 25, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“While Paul was waiting for them in Athens, his spirit was greatly upset because he saw the city was full of idols.”  Acts 17:1

We live in a world in which their are a great many idols that people worship.  Yet, are Christians today as disturbed in the as Paul was when he saw the idols in Athens.  Do we allow the Spirit of God to affect our spirit to the point that we must act to bring people into a right relationship with God?  Please pray that we will model this kind of spirit to our people here in Taiwan.  So that they too will be upset in their spirit to the point that they too will act.

Praise the Lord!  The Farmers are coming to Taiwan to pick up Mylee!  They will arrive on Wednesday and be here for three weeks.  This necessary to accomplish all they must do before their exit visa interview with the American Institute in Taiwan. AIT.  AIT is our de-facto embassy in Taiwan.  We still have to prove to AIT that we have put out sufficient effort to find Mylee’s birth mom.  Please pray as well for the transition that has to take place for Mylee.

Our families are really beginning to get excited about inviting their family and friends to the Mother’s day outreach.  Please join us in praying for God to work in each visitor’s heart.  We are also praying for 50 visitors.

The leadership study at last week at Good News went fine, but their were less people involved.  We are looking at changing the time in order to be better for more people.  Please pray that the leaders will make time to attend the study, but also to truly apply what they hear.  May they learn what it means to be a leader in God’s family.

Thank you for helping us serve here in Taiwan through your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please pray that not only we but the church here in Taiwan will be constrained by our spirit to spread the Gospel.

2.  PTL!  Mylee’s family is coming to pick her up.  Pray all goes well with their exit interview.  Pray for Mylee’s transition.

3.  Please pray for the upcoming Mother’s day outreach.

4.  Please continue to pray for the leadership study and the leadership study as a whole at the Good News church.

April 18, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

Then he brought them outside and asked, “Sirs, what must I do to be saved?”  Acts 16:30

These words are what every missionary or evangelist loves to hear.  They are like good music to the ears.  They make everything worthwhile.  Paul and Silas were overjoyed to hear this question after having suffered the pain and shame of the beating they had received earlier.  Recently, Paul Pan came to John with a smile on his face saying that a mother and daughter were considering be baptized.  He had already arranged time to meet with them and provide some foundational teaching.  These are the times that bring smiles even to the faces of the Angels in heaven.  Please join with us in praying for Hway Min and Angel.

Please pray for Eugene Tzai our part-time co-worker as he will graduate from seminary in June.  He will not have full-time position to move into at this time.  Ask God to give him direction as how to proceed at this time.  He is still hoping to go to the mission field after his daughters are both in college, but for the next couple of years work is needed.  His situation causes people like us to think about planning for Taiwanese co-workers.

May is approaching very quickly.  We are hoping to have 50 visitors for outreach activity on Mother’s Day.  Pray that our people will be directed by the Holy Spirit concerning whom to invite.  Please pray that we speak clearly the gospel message in love on that day.

John will be teaching again today at the Good News church on leadership.  Today’s topic is authority.  Please pray for him to be able to present clearly the truth of God’s Word.  Please pray that the hearts and minds of the those who attend will be teachable.

Thank you for being in our corner as we battle against Satan and the world.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please pray for Hway Min & Angel as they consider baptism.

2.  Please pray for Eugene and us as we consider his situation after graduation.

3.  Please continue to pray for the upcoming Mother’s Day outreach.

4.  Please pray for John’s teaching at Good News.
