April 11, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family and Friends,

“They went through the region of Phrygia and Galatia, having been prevented by the Holy Spirit from speaking the message in the province of Asia.  When they came to Mysia, they attempted to go into Bithynia, but the Spirit of Jesus did not allow them to do this, so they passed through Mysia and went down to Troas.  A vision appeared to Paul during the night: A Macedonian man was standing there urging him, ‘Come over to Macedonia and help us!’ After Paul saw the vision, we attempted immediately to go over to Macedonia, concluding that God had called us to proclaim the good news to them.”

This passage is part of the text that Eugene will be preaching on today at Eternal Light.  As I read through the text the Holy Spirit seemed to ask me if I listened well enough to know when He was saying, “No.”  How many times do we only do what we want even after praying.  We just assume that after praying we can just go ahead with our plans.  Do we really listen for an answer?  Paul and Silas did.  Will you join with me in praying for a heart that will here clearly both yes & no from God.

Since Easter came at the same time as Tomb Sweeping Day in Taiwan our people at Eternal Light decided to put more of a emphasis on Mother’s Day for an outreach activity.  We, Eternal Light, are praying for 50 people to attend our special service and meal.  On that Sunday besides recognizing our mothers our purpose is to emphasize that Jesus has power over life and death.  Our youth are preparing a puppet skit about the raising of Lazarus.  The preaching will emphasize the power of God as well. Please join us in praying for those that will be or have been invited to attend.

John continues to prepare for the leadership study at Good News.  The 18th of April will be the next time he teaches.

Cheryl’s grandmother, Bessie Jackson, was able to come home from the hospital on Sunday.  Thank you for praying.  Neither Grandma or Grandpa Jackson are doing very well.  Please pray for Cheryl’s family as they take care of them during this season of their life.

Two family friends died recently in the States.  Violet McCoy from the Latona Church of Christ where we used to serve.  Her family always included us in their family gatherings and treated us as their own.  Pat Mitchell has also gone on to her reward as well.  Many of you may know Mitchell family due to their music ministry to churches through out the mid-west. Please pray for these two families as they grieve for their loved ones.

Thank you for spending time lifting up these concerns in prayer.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

April 4, 2010 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“Now Jesus performed many other miraculous signs in the presence of the disciples, which are not recorded in this book.  But these are recorded so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.”  John 20:30-31

John will be preaching today from the book of John concerning why Jesus died and rose again.  We hope that the visitors that come today will be challenged by the account of Jesus’ love for them, and that it will cause them to believe.  We also hope that all of our brothers and sisters will be encouraged as well.  Join us in praying that God will be glorified through our worship today.

We continue to ask you to pray for Eternal Light as we discuss with the land owners the possibilities of renting the ground in order to build a church building.  We are waiting to hear back from the landlord about the terms of rental agreement.  Up to this point the amount of the rent would be too much for our present budget.  If we are going to be able to continue working toward building then God will have to intervene.  So, please continue to pray that we understand God’s will.

We have great news!  Mylee stateside paperwork is completed and in hand.  It should be just a short time and the Farmers will be coming to Taiwan to Taiwan to finish the visa process.  Please pray that the rest of the process goes smoothly.

John is continuing to prepare for the leadership study at the Good News Church.  The next session will be in two weeks.

Cheryl’s grandmother, Bessie Jackson, was admitted to the hospital last week with blood pressure problems.  Please pray that her blood pressure will stabilize and that she can come home soon.  Also pray for Cheryl’s family as everyone is busy trying to care for her grandparents with already busy schedules.

Bethany’s in-laws, Lorne & Kathy-Lu White, are planning to arrive in Canada on April 28th.  Please pray that they can find a place to stay and a vehicle to drive while they are in Canada.  Please continue to pray for Kathy-Lu’s surgery that will hopefully take place soon after they arrive in Canada.

We are sorry for missing last week’s prayer note.  We were not at home.  We  were on a short retreat/vacation with some other fellow missionaries.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

We Are Back!

Dear Family & Friends,

We had some trouble with the other blog.  We will see what it might take to get the old blogs posted on the archives.  We hope to use this blog to keep you informed about our ministry, prayer needs, and life in Taiwan.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl Dunn
