August 3, 2014 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“God is our strong refuge; he is truly our helper in times of trouble. For this reason we do not fear when the earth shakes, and the mountains tumble into the depths of the sea, when its waves crash  and foam, and the mountains shake  before the surging sea.”  Psalm 46:1-3

We all know that the circumstances of our life can change instantly.  It is this uncertainty that causes us to desire to find something that is unchangeable, that is certain. We as people need something that is secure in our lives that brings us hope.  That is our God.  So whether the earth shakes, the storms rage, or there are explosions from bombs, or gas leaks God is still here.  He is able to help us no matter our situation.  And as the father of one of the missionaries that contracted Ebola said, “No matter what he will be alright.”  We too who have placed our faith in the Lord God Almighty will be alright!

Many of you have heard the news of the gas leak explosions in Kaohsiung.  We thank you for your prayers and concerns for the people of Kaohsiung and specifically for our brothers and sisters in Christ.  As far as we know none of the people that attend our congregations were injured.  The area affected was not near to our home or to the homes of most of those we work with.  We ask that you continue to pray for those who have lost homes, loved ones, and employment due to the explosions.  Pray as well for hearts to be open to the gospel of Jesus Christ during this time.

Please pray for Nathanael as he travels today to meet up with us here at Philip and Bethany’s.  He is coming back to the states to work and eventually to go to school for his master’s degree.  Taiwan has been a huge part of his life, and it is difficult to leave a country and people you love when so many still don’t know our Lord and Savior.  It is a bittersweet time for him, but we are so grateful for the few days that we will all be together.  We will be flying back to Taiwan on Thursday.  Nathanael will fly on to Indianapolis on Friday.  We ask that you keep all of us in your prayers as we travel.

We have greatly enjoyed our time visiting with many of you this summer.  Thank you again for your financial and prayer support.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl

1.  Please pray that we all learn to look to God in times of trouble and not to despair.

2.  Please pray for the people of Kaohsiung as they recover from the gas explosions.  Pray as well for God to use this to bring people to Christ.

3.  Please pray for Nathanael as he travels as us as well.
