September 13, 2015 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“For the next thirty days anyone who prays to any god or human other than you, O king, should be thrown into a den of lions. … So King Darius issued the written edict.  When Daniel realized that a written decree had been issued, he entered his home, where the windows in his upper room opened toward Jerusalem.  Three times daily he was kneeling and offering prayers and thanks to his God just as he had been accustomed to do previously.”  Daniel 6:7f, 9-10

Daniel was a man that was committed to God.  He lived out his faith in his daily life.  He realized that God gave him the wisdom he needed to serve the king.  He also realized that his life was in the hand of God, therefore when faced with the king’s decree Daniel continue to worship God.  He did not bow to the pressure of the society around him.  He chose not to be politically savvy, instead he chose to be godly and wise.  Daniel was willing to risk his life to remain faithful.  Today people are faced with similar questions, some choose as Daniel, but others choose to bend or give in to the pressures of society.  Join with us in praying for the faith to make the hard, and at times, costly decisions in order that God will be glorified even if its’ cost is great for us.

We praise the Lord for the the students that attended the S&E camp reunion.  We were able to reconnect with 30 some campers.  We took the opportunity to encourage them to continue to get to know God deeper. They were invited to attend presently functioning discipleship or transform groups or with our help to start a new group where they live.  Pray that these students will desire to know God better and to become His disciples.

We ask that you continue to pray for Kevin and his family.  Kevin’s family has something to do this week, so the transform group will not be meeting.  Pray that Kevin’s desire to grow in Christ will not diminish and that next week the discipleship group will meet again.

Our team uses English club meetings in jr. high & high schools to have opportunities to meet students and teachers with the hope developing more discipleship groups.  The first of these meetings began last week and more will begin as the month continues.  Pray for these meetings to impact the hearts of those we meet.

This Tuesday morning our team will be meeting with Roy Li to work on the details of developing a curriculum to go with the Discovery English Studio videos that our team has been creating to use in the English clubs.  Roy is a key contact for the development of this ministry with the schools of Taichung.  The videos and English lessons all have a Bible basis.  Hopefully, Cheryl and others on our team will be helping to write a curriculum to meet the standards & benchmarks that the schools have for the English listening & comprehension.  The better our curriculum helps the teachers to reach their standards and benchmarks the more likely schools will use it, therefore providing more for seeds of the Gospel to be planted.

Recently, there has been an outbreak of Dengue Fever that is affecting mostly the southern part of Taiwan, although there are some cases in the north as well.  Please pray that this outbreak will quickly be controlled and that others will not contract it.

We had a wonderful time on our anniversary trip.  We are so grateful for the 30 years God has given us together.  We hope to be able to serve God faithfully together for many more years to come.

Thank you for your faithful prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl
