April 2, 2017 Prayer Note

Dear Family & Friends,

“But as for the seed that landed on good soil, these are the ones who, after hearing the word, cling to it with an honest and good heart, and bear fruit with steadfast endurance.”  Luke 8:15 NET

How do you understand the meaning of this verse?  Is is largely speaking of evangelism or does it go beyond that?  As we walk daily as a disciple of Christ we are receiving the Word of God into our lives.  Do we accept it as truth and act upon it so that it produces fruit in our lives?  If the answer is yes, then we are truly good soil and have allowed the Word of truth to keep our lives free of weeds, thorns, and rocks that would keep us from producing the fruit of righteousness in our lives.  It is important to notice that such fruit is only produced with perseverance.  It does not happen without effort.  This verse is about evangelism & discipleship.  Pray that we allow the Word of God to continue to produce a great harvest in our lives.

We continue to lift up the Sanford family in prayer daily and ask you to do the same.  Chris and Sam brought the children over on Friday and spent the night.  The team from Central Christian College of the Bible provided child care for the younger children of our team while we adults went out for a meal.  It was a good change of pace for Chris and Sam.  Chris is preaching today at the Home of God’s Love.  Life is little be little getting back to normal in what they are doing, but in their hearts they feel like life will never be the same.  Please continue to pray for their family to rely upon the strength and grace of God to face each day.

We met with Sam’s mom this past week.  Sam’s dad was gone to visit some of his family for a few days.  It is obvious that Sam’s mom is very committed to becoming a Christian, but just as obvious that she does not know much about what that truly means.  Sam’s dad is the same.  Please pray with us to use wisdom as we teach them the truth of God’s Word so that they will accept the truth and not reject it.

We have been very blessed to have the team from CCCB here this past week.  They have prayer walked, helped read stories to children, presented the story of the resurrection of Jesus at the Tai Ping Elementary School, participated in several of discipleship groups, helped paint at the Pregnancy Support Center, and more.  They certainly came to serve.  They leave tomorrow to return to the US.  They start school the day after arriving.  Please pray for them as they travel.

Please pray for the the four different missions teams from Andrew & Moriah’s school that are leaving this coming Thursday for different locations in Asia.  They all desire to be servants of God and of the people where they will be serving.  Two teams will be going to the Philippines.  One team will be going to Thailand.  The fourth team will be going to the city of Taidung, here in Taiwan.  We thank you for your generous support for Andrew and his team.  He received more than enough money to cover his trip.  The rest will go to help others on his team be fully funded or to cover other expenses for the trip including materials for their projects in the Philippines.

Moriah participated in a track meet yesterday here at Morrison.  There were other Christian schools from around Asia that participated as well as other international schools here in Taiwan.  Morrison’s boys and girls teams both came in first.  Moriah personally won two gold medals for relay teams and a silver for the 100 meter sprint.  What was really encouraging to see was how the teams supported each other even while competing.  We could often hear Moriah’s voice encouraging runners from other schools as well as Morrison.  Praise the Lord!

Thank you for your prayers.

God Bless,

John & Cheryl
