It was just like any other Friday – I finished up my commitments for the day and headed up to Dílar to meet with Magdalena. We sat down at her table, nibbled on some finger food, and dove right into conversation.
“So, how has your week been?” I asked. She was pretty silent at first, and I could sense she was holding back tears.
Finally, she responded, “I’m sorry, it’s just that the last few days I have just wanted to cry. I’m not living the life I want to live. I want more in life, but I feel stuck here. I hate my job, but if I don’t work my family won’t be able to eat. I can’t do anything I want, I’m a slave to the life I’m living.”
I sat for a second, wondering how I could respond, beyond just sitting with her and acknowledging her pain.
Then the Lord brought to mind a video I had been working on that very week for our media ministry — a compilation video of believers in Granada sharing how the Lord has changed their lives. I asked her if I could show her the video.
Magda watched the video with tears rolling down her cheeks. At the end, she looked at me and said, “That’s what I want. How can I get that?”
For the next two hours, we walked through the Gospel, reading through passages in Romans. Little by little, she is beginning to understand how the story of Jesus meets her greatest needs in life.
It is in these moments that I see so clearly the work God is doing in Magdalena’s life, leading her down a path of brokenness and emptiness to desire something so deep, so rich and so satisfying that this world will never be able to offer.
Please continue to pray for Magdalena’s spiritual journey. May the Gospel become clearer and clearer to her and may salvation come to her and her family!
