From a national partner:
As December ended, the L people celebrated their annual harvest festival, a stark contrast to the joyous Christmas festivities unfolding elsewhere. This ceremony, steeped in traditional beliefs, is marked by a chilling ritual.
On the 7th of December, the community chooses five individuals who ascend a mountain. One among them undergoes a ritualistic scarification, anointed with oil and carrying a gat, a traditional weapon. A serpent then emerges from the mountain, accepting the scarification and licking the oil from the man’s body. Once the serpent retreats, the remaining four collect its saliva, distributing it across the community as a supposed blessing. The day culminates in the worship of evil spirits.
My heart aches for my people group caught in the clutches of darkness. They offer worship and seek blessings from entities that cannot compare to the true Creator and source of all abundance – our almighty God.
This is why your prayers are desperately needed. Please intercede for the L people, that their eyes may be opened to the one true God, the one who deserves all praise and worship. Pray for discernment and courage, for their hearts to turn away from these rituals and embrace the life-giving message of Christ. May the true meaning of blessings and divine favor dawn upon them, ushering in a new era of faith and hope.
