From a national team leader in S. Asia

I met Shanti* while visiting the village when I went there with my wife to prayer walk. My wife saw this sister sitting alone at the doorway of her hut. Shanti has a small hut at the entrance of this village. My wife said that she felts strongly that she should talk to this her.

Shanti was heart broken. She shared her story with my wife, through many tears. She got married to a man of this village five years ago, and in those five years, they did not have any children. They went to so many doctors, but nothing happened.

Eventually, her mother in-law kicked her out of the house and made her husband marry another woman for a child. When she went back to her parents, they did not accepted her, saying that she is bad luck and will bring it with her since she cannot bear a child. So, she had no option but to live alone in this small hut where her parents keep their goats. She makes baskets and sells them to earn a living.

When we heard her story, our hearts filled with pain. We prayed for her and my wife started going to meet her. They spent time together in prayer and teaching Shanti from the Bible. Shanti felt a great peace and joy in her life after a few weeks of our visiting and learning about Jesus. She accepted that even if the whole world would abandon her, Jesus will never forsake her.

Now Shanti has been baptized and is walking faithfully with Christ. She has also opened her small hut for house church, where she invites her friends from the village to hear the Bible from my wife and grow in their faith and obedience.

She’s no longer alone.
