A month ago, Sam, a Moroccan immigrant in Southern Spain, tried to end his life.

This month, he found a reason to live.

Our worker Vic has been meeting with Sam to study the Bible. Sam grew up in Islam, but wanted to learn more about Jesus and the Bible. Vic and Sam had met only a few times when God proved that He was transforming Sam’s heart.

On one Friday night, as they were looking together at Matthew 5, Vic felt a conviction that he should ask Sam to follow Jesus. Vic thought, “How, Lord? We are only in chapter 5 and others have needed much more time!” But the conviction continued. “Ask him if he wants to follow Jesus.”

After wrestling with the Spirit, Vic finally asked, “Sam, do you want to accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior?”

Sam’s answer was an immediate yes!

After they prayed together and Sam submitted his heart to Jesus, he told Vic in his little Spanish, “I have been reading the Bible that you gave me and it says that Jesus took a shower (he did not know the word “baptism” in Spanish). I want to take a shower so that Jesus will hear me. I want to do it. Islam is a lie.”

After many tears of joy, they finished their group that Friday by explaining baptism to Sam. They agreed that the following week, Vic was going to baptize Sam.

However, before they could meet again, Sam’s company moved him unexpectedly to a city nine hours away. Vic continues to pray for Sam and hopes to visit him soon and baptize him. Now, he’s far from Vic, but he is not far from Jesus.
