Toward the end of 2024, the mom of our son’s best friend from school told us that her son, who is 8 years old, was very interested in Jesus, and she wanted to encourage him to get to know Jesus better, even though she comes from an atheistic home that ridiculed Christianity.

We gifted her a kids’ Bible, and he read the whole thing, taking notes along the way. He would also read it in moments when he felt emotionally overwhelmed. The mom noticed a difference in her son’s life and talked with us about it.

She also confided in us that since she lives with her parents, she had to force them to let her son keep the Bible, because they didn’t want anyone reading the Bible in their home.

Learning the Gospel

Just before Christmas, she and her son came over to our house for cookies and some games, and we were able to share the Gospel with her once again and challenge some of her atheistic beliefs.

At the beginning of January, she and her son joined our small church gathering, and she was immediately impacted by God’s Word and by the fellowship. She has been coming since, bringing her son when he isn’t at his father’s house, and she has talked with her older daughter about coming as well.

Each week as she shares with the church or with us in front of the school, we can see the cracks in her worldview grow. Just last week, she accepted a full Bible from us and some books of atheists who set out to debunk Christianity and instead wound up following Jesus.

Greater Peace

She is talking about these things with her children, with her co-workers and even with her parents. She is noticing a greater serenity in her life, which is full of turmoil as she deals with the challenges of single parenting after divorce and with all the ups and downs of an aggressive cancer. Others are noticing a difference in her as well.

Little by little, God is chipping away at her atheistic strongholds to make a way for her to experience His love and grace. Little by little, He’s healing her inner wounds so that she would know her Creator and who she was created to be.
