Disciple Maker in North Africa

Wanted: young people who want to accelerate a movement in a coastal city of about 300,000 people. This role is all about people: meeting them, befriending them, serving them and sharing the Good News with them in a patient and loving way.

You will meet scores of young people who are seeking meaning in life, wanting to improve their English and interested in developing a more open mind-set.

This North African team is looking for a few team members aged 22-30 to assist in: running English discussion clubs; following up new contacts, and helping to run an international church. They need people who are fairly outgoing and willing to learn the basics of a new language or two, for a short-term stint of an academic year or two (or longer, if God wills).

This team has created a bit of momentum and now has more seekers and new believers than they can follow up effectively. They also realize that peer-to-peer evangelism is quite effective. A few spiritually mature, affable young men and women would immediately multiply the impact of the team.

MINISTRY QUALIFICATIONS

This team prefers college graduates because they work with college students and young professionals. They are seeing strong results among medical students and computer programmers right now. Candidates should show evidence of being able to build strong friendships and share their faith effectively with people far from Jesus. They should also be determined to learn at least the basics in French and/or Arabic. The team will teach you those languages in a patient and encouraging way.

Preference will be given to those who have actually led people to Jesus (or led them much closer to Him) in the past year or two.

Your support needs will be minimal. Most short-termers here raise $3000 for plane tickets to cover the initial flight and “visa trips” out of the country every few months. They then raise $750-$1000/month to live here.

You may also need to live alone. We are looking for emotionally stable young people who are self-motivated and can fulfill responsibilities without being constantly monitored. This is a difficult context where Satan has ruled for centuries. People are not especially warm or open, so you will have to take the initiative.

This is the fourth field of service among Muslims for this team. They are highly experienced and will give you good coaching and help you avoid many pitfalls. They pride themselves on working strategically. They will provide strong emotional support for the right people.
