Missionaries and locals in Taiwan are facing many unusual obstacles. They are requesting prayer as they trust God in these unique challenges. As always, current issues pale in comparison to the overwhelming spiritual need and urgency. Information taken from Team Expansion workers’ reports from Taiwan.

Drought

Taiwan is experiencing its worst drought in more than 50 years, with water supply being cut off for 56 hours every week and no relief in sight. An unusually dry year and the rare absence of typhoons has dwindled Taiwan’s water reservoirs.

Covid-19 Outbreak

After a full year of keeping local cases of COVID-19 at bay, Taiwan is experiencing the worst COVID-19 problem it has had so far, with the whole island on response level 3 out of 4 with level 4 (almost total lock down) possible if the current rate of infection continues.

Most activities have been cancelled by government mandate for the time being. A max of 5 people indoors and 10 at outdoor gatherings is allowed.

Politcal Tension

There is always tension between Taiwan and China, but that threat seems to be increasing in recent days. Plans are being prepared in the event of a major political shift.
