One day as Emna* scrolled through her Facebook, she noticed a post with a verse from the Bible. She had never read the Bible before.

Emna had grown up in a simple, traditional Muslim family. Just as the other women in her village did, Emna had worn the veil as a sign of devotion to Islam. However, over time, she became disillusioned with her religion. She felt that it was empty, with nothing to offer her. She felt that it was corrupt. She no longer believed she was devoted to Islam. So, a year before, she boldly stopped wearing the veil.

Despite trying to be an atheist, Emna believed in her heart that there was a God. She knew there had to be a Creator and purpose in this life.

A New Path

The day she read the verses on Facebook, she immediately craved more. She wanted a relationship with this God who spoke to her heart. Emna contacted the ministry who had posted the verses, and within a few days, two of their local partners were sitting with her in a coffee shop. They shared about the prophecies Jesus fulfilled, and how He came to restore her relationship to God.

Suddenly everything clicked. Emna realized that this was the true God she had been searching for. This was the God of purpose and life! She returned to her home to devour the new book she had been given.

A New Model

A month later she asked to meet with the believers again. This time one of the believers brought her husband. Emna had just finished reading the entire New Testament, and she had a notebook full of questions. She wrestled with how to apply the Word to her life. She had a boyfriend, but he was a devoted Muslim and had told her never to discuss her doubts with him. She now knew that she must not become “unequally yoked” with him. She knew that she could not have two masters—God and her own desires. So, she decided to go and break off the relationship. She wanted Jesus to be her Savior AND Lord.

During that meeting, Emna admired the beautiful relationship that this Christian couple had because of their unity in Christ. She admired the equality of value between the man and woman. She was struck by their testimonies of faith and how they gave up studies and relationships when they decided to follow Christ, and how God blessed them with much more than they could have imagined.

A New Life

Recently, Emna called the local believers and said that she is ready to give her life to Christ and be baptized.

Like many other girls in this country, when she was seven years old, a pagan blood covenant ceremony was performed on her, and she was given over to protection by certain spirits. Often, these covenants need to be broken and rejected in prayer in order for a new believer to have full freedom. Please pray for spiritual freedom in Christ for Emna as she starts her new life.
