When David was fleeing from Saul, he was fortunate that among his ranks of supporters were “from Issachar, men who understood the times and knew what Israel should do—200 chiefs, with all their relatives under their command.” (1 Chronicles 12) These leaders surveyed the situation and were able to motivate their kinsmen to respond. To fulfill the Great Commission, we need men and women of Issachar — people who will pay attention to the needs of the mission field, pray diligently, and rely on the Holy Spirit as they motivate and mobilize future workers.

What Does the Issachar Watch Do?
What if the needs of the mission field could be anticipated? What if there was a team of people who were committed to mobilizing the Church and preparing the next wave of senders and goers?
Ghana is one of our most fruitful fields. Every year, our team celebrates thousands of baptisms. Recently, veteran leaders on the field prayerfully transitioned to being Stateside partners for their health needs. Two fantastic longer-term interns helped ease this transition, and the last of these interns finishes her time there this summer. Soon, just one Team Expansion family will remain amid exponential DMM growth and an expanding agricultural ministry. We don’t want to see them labor alone.
The Issachar Watch is armed with a list of current needs, like this one in Ghana. Like the chiefs of Issachar, the Watch surveys the land of their local church body for kinsmen and kinswomen who might respond to these needs of the King on the mission field.
Many missionaries have begun their journey simply because there was a crucial need and someone insightful told them that they might be the ones who could meet it. That can’t happen without wise men and women who know the needs and know their community. If we’re going to reach every person with the Gospel, we need you!
