From a Team Expansion worker:
Farida is a mother of five children—three sons and two daughters. Her husband passed away from cancer in Afghanistan, leaving her to raise her children alone as a refugee in Tajikistan. Life was extremely difficult, and her family regularly depended on food assistance to survive.
Farida joined one of our programs, where she spent multiple months learning tailoring skills and training as a cook. After completing the training, a team of our staff from the center regularly visited her home to spend time with the family, pray with them, and encourage Farida as a single mother caring for five children.
During this time, our team continued delivering food packages and building a close relationship with the family. As trust grew, Farida began asking many questions about Jesus and Christianity. She was deeply curious and eager to understand more.
One night, Farida’s oldest daughter had a dream. She saw a man dressed in white who came into their room and said, “from now on, I am the head of your family. I will take care of you. You no longer need to worry. Jesus has taken away your sins. You are free just put your trust in your Lord.”
The family shared this dream with our outreach team. Our team explained that this was the Lord, and that He loves them deeply and understands their hearts. A few days later, Farida and her entire family chose to put their faith in Jesus and began following Him.
Today, Farida is actively involved in discipleship within the Afghan refugee community, together with her children. Through the skills she gained from this project, she is no longer dependent on outside assistance. She now supports her family through tailoring work and part-time cooking, and she has even begun helping two other refugee families.
Farida is also sharing the Gospel through her relationships and her small business within the community. Her life is a testimony of how God is at work providing practical help, restoring hope and sharing the good news with other refugees’ families
