From Team Expansion workers in Ecuador

They had looked for peace before, but now they've finally found it.

They had looked for peace before, but now they’ve finally found it.

Nery and Mercy

A volunteer team was doing Adopt a Block (going door to door to ask families if they need anything)  and we got to know this couple and Mercy’s 3 children.

Mercy has a 15-year-old daughter, Estrella. Estrella has a 2-month-old baby boy and the father is a 25-year-old man who is very controlling and abusive. Mercy was able to get her daughter away from this man because he was threatening to take the baby and sell it to a lawyer.

They have to be very careful because this man knows where they live and they can’t leave Estrella and the baby alone.

Though they’ve only been together 4 years, Nery treats Mercy’s children like his own. He provides for them and is very kind to them.

Peace in Christ

Nery comes from a family of thieves and drug addiction. He went to several different churches in the past to find peace, but he said he could never find it!

While studying the Peace Treaty with us, Nery and Mercy both felt the presence of Christ.

When they began reading their Bibles, God gave them understanding of His Word. Their two daughters, Estrella and Gabriela, also were studying with us.

They all were baptized and have been faithful in becoming Christ’s disciples!

The family participates in a small group during the week as well as church activities. Nery and Mercy are getting their documents so they can get married, which is often rare in this area.

Please keep this family in prayer for they are going through difficult times but they are encouraged by the love of Jesus.
