By Team Expansion workers serving in Italy
Every week, our team opens the church place to those in the community who might want to come in and pray with us or pick up some food or clothing. Outside, on a table, we have placed Bibles and Italian language calendars with Scriptures and a brief reflection for each day.
Through this, we have made friends with Anna.
Because of how she speaks Italian, Anna is a bit difficult for us to understand, but with perseverance on everyone’s side, we always seem to manage communication. Anna has been very enthusiastic in handing out the free Bibles and calendars to her friends and family. Almost every week, she will come by and wave to us through the window, holding up either a Bible or a calendar to show us she is taking one to give away.
Today, as all of us were sitting inside and working our various office projects and discussing our work, Anna came by and waved to us without picking up an anything. She opened the door and said, “I gave Don Gregorio the calendar. Should I give him a Bible, too?”
We answered, “No, Anna, I am sure he has a Bible. But thanks for giving him the calendar.” She insisted that maybe she needed to give him a Bible as well. We all reassured her that we thought he had one already.
While we don’t always understand Anna and what she is thinking, we are certain that she loves us and is giving people God’s Word in different forms to many different people that we wouldn’t have even thought of.
And, if in some way, Don Gregorio, the local priest, becomes curious about where Anna is getting her material, it may lead to a meeting!
