“Seek the kingdom of God above all else and live righteously and he will give you everything you need.” (Matthew 6:33)
Bangladeshi migration to the USA dates to the 1880s, though the population did not start to grow steadily until 1970-1980s. The largest communities are found in New York and New Jersey, with other communities in Washington DC, Los Angeles, Boston, Chicago, and Detroit. Sylheti people are one of the oldest and largest migrating groups, forming a total diaspora of around 200,000 across the US. Many Sylhetis work as taxi drivers, in shops, restaurants, and fast-food places. The desire for status and wealth is an inspiration for many in a land where consumerism is rampant.
Father, we pray for Sylheti people tempted by the allure of earthly gain. We pray they may seek Jesus above all things and discover that they can trust in Jesus as Provider for material needs.
