From a Team Expansion worker serving refugees in the USA

He showed up at my house with three large boxes of chicken to give out to my family and others who have helped him.

One Saturday morning, around 8 o’clock, I  got the call that Ismael was on his way. We were going to move him to a nearby city and help prepare for his wife’s arrival to America.

He has not seen his wife in over two years, and has not even met his two-year-old daughter.

He showed up at my house with three large boxes of chicken to give out to my family and others that have helped him.

Gathering Donations

After eating breakfast together, we went to collect all of the things that people had given for his wife and daughter.

We ended up at a man’s home who had donated a beautiful dresser. Ismael was overwhelmed and asked, “Why are so many people helping us?”

The man replied, “We’re just trying to follow the Book; sharing what we have.”

We went to another house to gather things and Ismael said, “In my 35 years, I have never felt this way.” He was so happy with everything people had given for his family.

The Church Meets My Needs!

When I was a child in Sudan, my parents always took us to the church when we had a need.I decided not to rush in with a Jesus story, as he had been resistant to me sharing about Jesus in the past.

So I prayed.

We started on the road to the city. After thinking for awhile, Ismael told me, “When I was a child in Sudan, my parents always took us to the church when we had a need. They would give us food and medicine. Now, I am an adult man in America, and the church is still meeting my needs.”

I now replied, “It is Jesus’ love in us, so this is Jesus loving you.”
