One of Team Expansion’s main evangelistic goals is to start disciple-making movements among the unreached.
In fact, Team Expansion is committed to seeing 24 disciple-making movements by 2024.
We define a disciple-making movement or DMM as being 4 streams of churches that have grown to the 4th generation.
But what does that look like?
The process is simple.
A missionary helps ignite a DMM among the unreached by first finding a Person of Peace, defined by Jesus in Luke 10 as someone who receives the messenger and the message of the Gospel and opens his home and relational network to both being faithful to obey and share whatever he/she receives.
Once the missionary finds the Person of Peace they have them assemble a Discovery Bible Study (DBS) group from the person’s own household or network of friends. This DBS group allows them to discover Scripture for themselves, rather than being taught what to believe by someone else.
The DBS strategy has made it possible for disciple-making movements to take off in areas where there’s little “professional” direction from a missionary or pastor.
This allows groups to flourish even if they’re in a difficult location where teachers aren’t accessible. More importantly, this approach equips believers to multiply in such a way that it can coalesce into a movement driven by the Holy Spirit.
After the missionary leads the group (with the Person of Peace) through a DBS they train them to find another Person of Peace and begin the process again, this time as the leaders. They train the next Person of Peace to do the same and the stream continues until all their people group has been reached!
Team Expansion believes that DMMs are the most strategic and effective way to spread the Gospel among the unreached.
Because of that, we want to equip each of our missionaries in effective disciple-making practices. We provide extensive training and ongoing support. The missionary cannot sustain such a church multiplication movement, so we want to see each missionary raising up disciples who then raise up disciples who raise up disciples, etc.
DMMs aren’t just for overseas, though!
We’ve seen dozens of people start successful disciple-making movements in their own homes right here in the States.
While we do everything in our power to see DMMs established, we know and trust that only God can accomplish this work. We plant the seeds, but God creates the harvest.
