by Dionna Linn, a Quest Apprentice raising support to go to Spain

It all started with a big, blue house

Walk with me back to the spring of 2010 – I was a senior in high school preparing to come to the US from Venezuela for college. Simultaneously, my parents were planning what was to be a one-year stateside furlough. Just like every other furlough, the question arises, “Where will we live?”

Juggling between several options, a connection was made with a church on the outskirts of Indianapolis, one with which my family had no prior relationship. This church, New Hope Christian Church, owned a house which had been used for years as a foster home to over 350 children, yet had sat empty for several years.

It all started with this big, blue house.

It all started with this big, blue house.

The church generously offered to house my parents for their furlough. My parents accepted the invitation and moved into the big blue house in the summer of 2010.

During that first year of college, I recall struggling to come “home” to the big blue house during college breaks. The pain of transition from life in Venezuela seemed to intensify as visiting my parents meant trying to make home of yet another unfamiliar community.

I never realized what God was doing in the background, establishing connections that would become so crucial today. My parents’ one-year furlough turned into almost three and a half years, allowing time to establish deeper connections with the community at New Hope.

Though my parents returned to Venezuela, I continued to return to the area to work on my friends’ farm, whom I had met through the church.

A New Chapter

Fast forward a couple of years to the present day.  Last month I asked for prayer for my first church presentation… at New Hope Christian Church.

As the mission board members trickled into the room, I walked to the front to prepare my presentation materials. Looking up and around the room, my attention was instantly caught by the only visible object perfectly placed outside the window – the big blue house.

What a reminder of God’s providence, His sovereignty, and His perfect plan that He had been working on for years before Spain was ever on my radar.

During that meeting, I prayerfully asked New Hope to be my sending church, and they accepted! I am so grateful to share with you all this news and praise God for the way He orchestrated this connection before it was ever on my mind.
