By a Team Expansion worker:

She had been “seeing” him for a few years. She, a young woman from the countryside, the epitome of a village girl, and he, a driver who lived near a  main waterfall. About a 4 hour drive away.

It took all the money that she had to make the trip. She didn’t tell him she was coming.

After arriving in his city with anticipation, vendor after vendor answered her inquiries about the man and where he might be located.

On hearing her asking about the man, a woman standing nearby pointed and asked if the man standing over near his van was the one she was searching for.  “Yes” the girl answered, relieved that her search was over and she could finally be with him again.

Before she could make a move the woman continued, “Did you know that he is my husband?”

Desperate and Alone

Her world falling around her and not a dime in her pocket, she began the 20+ kilometer walk back to the capital city, where she didn’t know a soul.

Her world falling around her and not a dime in her pocket, she began the 20+ kilometer walk back to the capital city, where she didn’t know a soul. Eight km down the road, Lo* (our coffee promoter), passed her on his motorbike on his way to work. She was carrying a bag.

“Her ride must have broken down,” he thought as he drove on by.

After walking a few more kilometers, she arrived at Lo’s house. He and his wife run a little store on the side of the road.

She was exhausted and hungry.

She didn’t ask for anything but Nal, Lo’s wife, could tell. Food was offered and accepted and the story came out.

Finding New Hope

She arrived desperate, and left with a brand new faith.

She arrived desperate, and left with a brand new faith.

When Lo arrived back home, he was surprised to see the same girl he saw earlier sitting in front of their house talking with Nal.

He learned her story and then began to tell her the greatest story there ever was.

Two others came by later and continued to share with her throughout the evening. That night, she became a believer and was baptized in a large plastic garbage can.

She slept that night in their home and the next morning Nal drove her to the
bus station and paid for her ticket home.

This is a wonderful story of how God works.  As always, I am amazed and blessed to see how ready our guys are to boldly witness about the gift they have been entrusted.

The hard part of the story is that this girl will go home and face many trials and challenges regarding her new found faith and that may be hard to withstand.  Many villages have no believers at all to encourage each other.

Pray that she will receive the follow up that she needs and that a group of believers may develop in her own village.
