We’re in a series exploring the answers to the most commonly asked questions that our potential missionaries ask. This time, we’re answering the question:

“Do I get to chose where I’ll serve?”

We’re determined to see your heart, hear where God is already drawing you, and do our best to help you answer His call on your life.

Usually. But it might not be cut and dry.

Team Expansion is not going to force you to go anywhere specific, although we might offer suggestions based on your gifts, abilities, qualifications, and suitability for a specific need. We’d walk with you through prayer and counsel to discern the best fit for you, your family, and the Kingdom.

We’re determined to see your heart, hear where God is already drawing you, and do our best to help you answer His call on your life.

Unreached?

There are some areas where Team Expansion simply doesn’t send teams, especially if there’s already a thriving Church there. We are burdened for the third of the world that is considered unreached – with little to no access to Believers, the Bible, or a church.

So, if you’re determined to go serve in a nation where there’s already a significant church presence, we’re probably not the right organization for you. But we’re excited for the call God has put on your life and we hope you find the right organization to send you!

Inaccessible?

Sometimes, no matter how many methods we pursue, visas won’t be issued to westerners.

Sometimes, no matter how many methods we pursue, visas won’t be issued to westerners.

There are a few nations where there are not viable options yet for sending church planting teams. That does not mean we aren’t willing to work with you to try. We love seeing teams living and serving in “creative access” locations, where the Gospel is shining through you for the first time. Glory to God!!!

But the reality is that, sometimes, no matter how many methods we pursue, visas won’t be issued to westerners, and we can’t let you go in illegally.

Want to know something truly amazing? In some of the cases where we could not find safe and sustainable ways to send in workers, populations of the targeted people group end up relocating to an entirely different country and we have access we never could have imagined.

Let’s Talk

If God is directly you very clearly to a specific nation, people group, or team – awesome! Let’s work together to get you there. If you have a general tug toward sharing the Gospel among the unreached, we’d love to walk with you and see where God might take you.

All that being said, you might be surprised how often God calls people into the last place they’d consider. And how often our plans turn out to look very different from His.

We advise you to move forward in faith, trusting that His orchestration is going to be far superior to anything you have in mind.

What factors played a role in where you ended up serving? Was it totally your decision? Did your church or organization ask you to fill a specific need on a field they chose? Did God send you somewhere you didn’t expect? Let us know in the comments.
