From workers serving in N Africa

A Desperate Sadness

This year started out sadly for our local friends. First, our first language teacher, *Sophia’s, father passed away in her arms from a seizure.

Had anyone in that room ever heard the Gospel? The weight of that reality attempted to crush our souls, yet it put a fire in us screaming out that this is unacceptable.

It is their tradition here that family and friends come to the home to mourn. His body was laid in a back room with a white sheet over him.

Sophia, her mother, and their family sat around him as they tried to make sense of this sudden loss.

When we arrived, she embraced us with a long, strong hug and she just wept.

While we sat there staring at the lifeless body, the Quran was being recited in the background on the television. We felt utterly sad. It was too late for Sophia’s dad.

Hopelessness consumed our hearts as we knew that each person in that room was hoping that Sophia’s dad’s good deeds were good enough to be accepted into Heaven. They couldn’t know. They couldn’t be sure.

And yet, we knew. Jesus said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me.” (John 14:6)

A Desperate Need

As we looked at each person in that room with tears streaming down their cheeks, we knew that few, if any, of them have ever heard the Good News.  God, Himself, provided a way so they could be sure.

The weight of that reality attempted to crush our souls, yet it put a fire in us screaming out that this is unacceptable.

These beautiful souls, whom God loves dearly, are ripe for the harvest.

These beautiful souls, whom God loves dearly, are ripe for the harvest.

More than 7,000 people groups in the world TODAY  are still out of the reach of the Bible, the Church, or any kind of Christian witness. This is unacceptable. It must change.

These beautiful souls, whom God loves dearly, are ripe for the harvest. They are searching and there just aren’t enough workers to engage them.

This gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in the whole world as a testimony to all the nations, and then the end will come. (Matthew 24:14)

We expect that this is possible within our lifetime because, in our opinion, over 2000 years is already too long. Anything longer is unacceptable.

A Desperate Call to Action

How will these 7,000 people groups EVER hear the Gospel if we don't change our efforts and focus?

How will these 7,000 people groups EVER hear the Gospel if we don’t change our efforts and focus?

If we keep doing what we have always been doing, we will keep getting what we have always been getting. If Christians, the global Church, are not making disciples that makes more disciples then what on earth are we doing?

How will these 7,000 people groups EVER hear the Gospel if we don’t change our efforts and focus?

We are an ordinary couple from small towns of southern Indiana. There was no special calling just for us. We are not doing anything that any other follower of Jesus isn’t already capable of doing.

All believers been commissioned to make disciples of all ethnic groups. Some will have to cross an ocean, some will have to stay.

Whether we work in an office, stay at home with kids, serve as a deacon of a church, or are a cross-cultural worker, our job and purpose is the same.

Let us leverage whatever position we are in in life to make Jesus known where He isn’t yet known.
